Dupuytren’s Contractures Hand Surgery Sydney

Dupuytren’s contracture (also known as Dupuytren’s disease) is a condition that affects the hands and fingers. It is caused by a thickening of the connective tissue in the palm. This thickening leads to the development of nodules and cords in the palm and fingers. If the cords run along the finger or thumb they can shorten (contract) and pull the fingers in towards the palm of the hand. Dupuytren’s contracture usually affects both hands and most commonly affects the ring fingers and the little fingers, followed by the index fingers, the middle fingers and the thumb.

As sufferers of Dupuytren’s contracture know all too well, this is a very debilitating condition. If left untreated, the condition may progress to the point where the fingers are pulled into a permanently bent position, and normal hand function will be lost. This loss of hand function can make normal daily activities (e.g. dressing) very difficult, or even impossible, and can therefore have a major impact on quality of life. If you have been diagnosed with Dupuytren’s contracture, Dr Kumar and his team are experts at helping you regain your hand function and quality of life. Using the latest techniques in Dupuytren’s Contracture Treatment they will surgically release the tissue that is causing the contraction, allowing you to rediscover the normal, pain-free movement you need to enjoy life to the full. As with all our procedures, your comfort and best outcome is our top priority.
